PREVIEW: Mansfield Town v Swindon Town

SWINDON TOWN travels to Mansfield later today seeking their first win in four games. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker previews the action.

A Boxing Day draw against Northampton took the shine off of the brilliant start Richie Wellens has made to his managerial role at Swindon Town as the Robins extended their winless streak to three.

But against a high-flying Mansfield side chasing automatic promotion, Town will need to be at their very best to get points in their last game of the year.

Entertaining a goalless draw at the County Ground earlier this season, Swindon now travel to the midlands hoping to bounce back to winning ways.

Travelling Swindon fans will be hoping for a repeat result of Town’s last trip at the One Call Stadium the previous season with the Robins having secured a fantastic away 1-3 victory.

But when analysing recent form and with eleven points separating 3rd placed Mansfield from 13th placed Swindon, it’s clear that the home side enters the fixture as favourites.

Departing Swindon Town for Mansfield mid-way through last season makes David Flitcroft’s history with the Wiltshire club add extra spice to the festive fixture.

Unbeaten in their last three games and having only lost once at home all season makes the hosts favourite for today’s clash, and given their recent goalscoring form it’s clear to see why.

Tyler Walker has been in excellent form scoring 14 goals all season, whilst CJ Hamilton and Danny Rose provide strong back-up with each scoring 7 and 5 goals respectively.

In stark contrast, a lack of potency in front of goal has seen Swindon fail to make a push on the playoffs.

Elijah Adebayo leads Town’s goalscoring charts for the season with 5 to his name but poor performances from Swindon’s main strikers have limited their climb up the table.

Richie Wellens will be hoping for a big performance from his Swindon Town side but it’s hard to see the Robins bringing points back to SN1 ahead of the New Year.

Prediction: 3-1
