PREVIEW: SWINDON TOWN V BURY

SWINDON TOWN will look to continue their climb up the League Two table as the Wiltshire club take on Bury at The County Ground this afternoon. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker previews the match ahead of kick-off.

Just four days on from Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy victory over Newport, Phil Brown’s Swindon will look to keep their unbeaten home run going, as Bury make the long trip South searching for their first away win of the season.

Having not played each other since Town’s League One relegation season of 16/17, Saturday’s match presents the SN1 club with the opportunity to make amends for a dire run of results against the Midlands-based club, with Swindon having lost four of the last five games between the two clubs.
But having not faced off against one another in League Two competition for eleven years, Phil Brown will be hopeful of a positive result.

Still unbeaten at The County Ground this season has resulted in Swindon players building a sense of belief that they are unbeatable on their own turf, and with Bury still without an away win this season, Saturday offers Town the perfect chance of extending their record.

Only two points currently separate Ryan Lowe’s Bury positioned in 13th and Swindon Town, with the Wiltshire club having climbed to 7th in the League Two table. But with Town fans expecting promotion this campaign, there is a necessity for Swindon to start winning more matches.

Twelve points from seven games is a respectable points return for Brown and his management team, however, having drawn three of their last four league fixtures there is an earnest for Swindon to start winning more games.

Luke Woolfenden and Sid Nelson are expected to partner one another in defence with the pair having kept two clean sheets from their last two matches, and it will be the job of the two youngsters to halt the threat of Danny Mayor, with the Bury striker having scored three goals already this season.

In contrast, Swindon’s Michael Doughty will be hoping to return to scoring form after not finding the back of the net in Town’s recent win over Morecambe, and with five goals already this season, the midfielder will be key to Swindon taking all three points away from The County Ground.

In attack, Elijah Adebayo will undoubtedly lead the line against Town’s opponents after finding a purple patch of form. But it’s crucial that his teammates play to his strengths and give the ball into his feet, which is where the forward excels.

Injuries news for Town see’s Dion Conroy, Chris Robertson, and Kaiyne Woolery still unavailable but with all three quickly increasing their fitness, it’s expected the medical room will hopefully be emptying sooner rather than later.

Today’s match will undoubtedly be a test of two different styles of play, and it will be interesting to see which team takes control of the match early on. Swindon Town will be aiming for all three points, and the most likely outcome will be a victory for the hosts, but this is football after all and anything can happen.

Outcome: Swindon to win by 2 or more goals.
