Remeao Hutton credited Swindon with helping to develop him as a player

Remeao Hutton paid homage to Swindon Town for helping to make him a better player after their 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to him after the game.

The wing-back set up Jacob Wakeling’s first goal for eight games as Swindon earned a point against Tranmere, cancelling out Josh Hawkes’ early effort.

Hutton credited a lot of the work done on the training ground for his recent spate of assists and effectiveness in the final third.

He said: “I have been working on getting behind the back four without the ball, I am quite good at taking players on one-v-one, but we have been working on me crossing the ball inside the pitch rather than outside.

“That means that the ball doesn’t have as far to travel and it is a bit more like a pass rather than me having to put everything into it.

“I think that has worked as I have had three assists since we started working on it.

“I played against Swindon last season and it was like they were playing with 12 men, with the way they created space and we were just chasing the ball and I wanted to be a part of that team.

“I always knew that the training would be sharp, when I first got here I was getting dizzy in Rondos, but it was something that I wanted to work on, keeping the ball in tight spaces.

“The way we play and keep possession, we don’t have to defend as much and attacking is more my game, so I feel like I am only going to get better.”

Scott Lindsey decided to revert to a back three against Tranmere, and Hutton said that he was happy to be allowed to play as a wing-back.

He said: “It is a bit easier for me to do the crosses and things that we have been working on from the wing-back position.

“Obviously, it means we can break their line with one pass and then I am behind their back four and I can just slide it in.

“We have been changing formations, but it is just about knowing the role and the players around you.

“If you go to three at the back, then the wing-backs are more likely to be with the forwards, so we need to get that chemistry with the forwards and then back three need that chemistry amongst themselves.

“I feel like they [Luke Jephcott and Wakeling] know what I am going to do and we work on it in training and do extras afterwards.

“Both of them want to run into the goal, so I don’t have to pull it back or look up, I just know they are going to be going that wat

“So as long as I play it in front, there is always going to be a chance of one of them tapping it in.”
