Richie Wellens handed improper conduct charge by FA

SWINDON TOWN manager Richie Wellens has been charged with improper conduct by the FA after being sent off in Swindon’s midweek 3-0 Carabao Cup loss against Colchester United.

In a feisty match that saw both Swindon’s Jerry Yates and Colchester’s Cohan Bramall given their marching orders after getting involved in on an on-pitch scuffle, Total Sport Swindon understands the FA charge handed to Wellens comes after the STFC manager was allegedly involved in a half-time incident when walking down the tunnel at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Following the announcement, Wellens, 39, has until Monday to respond to the improper conduct charge handed to him by English football's governing body.

An official statement on the club’s website said:

"The club can today confirm that manager, Richie Wellens has been charged with improper conduct following Tuesday’s Carabao Cup game against Colchester.

It is alleged that Wellens’ behaviour in the tunnel area at half-time amounts to improper conduct.

Richie has until 18:00, Monday 19th August to respond.

The club will make no further comment at this time.

Swindon Town return to League Two action this weekend as they travel to Exeter seeking to maintain their 100% winning start to the season, however, the squad will be without top scorer Jerry Yates who begins his three-match ban.
