Robins looking to bounce back after Lions mauling

Swindon Robins will head into Thursday’s home clash with Wolverhampton looking to bounce back after a midweek 50-42 defeat at Leicester.

The M&S Van Rental Robins struggled to get going and were 9-3 down after two heats, but a late rally gave them a chance of a consolation point in heat 15.

Alun Rossiter’s men just missed out as skipper Jason Doyle won the final race but Nick Morris trailed in last place.

Team boss Rossiter said: “It’s a disappointing result, but we never got going until heat 10 and I got quite vocal about it which I don’t normally do.

“Putting it simply, we just couldn’t afford to give Leicester the start that we did. They outclassed us early on, and fair play to them.

“Congratulations to Leicester for their win, at no time did we underestimate them and if you read all my pre-match press comments that’s exactly what I said. I’m sure this will be the first of many wins for them.

"Now we have to regroup and go again on Thursday on our own track and see if we can put one over Wolverhampton to put three more points on the board.”

Doyle top scored for the visitors against his former club, reeling off three wins in his final three rides, whilst reserve Charles Wright rode through the pain barrier to win his final ride after dislocating his shoulder in an awkward heat eight spill.

LEICESTER 50: Szymon Wozniak 11+1, Patrick Hougaard 11, Paul Starke 8+2, Nicolai Klindt 7+2, Seb Ulamek 6+2, Josh Auty 6+1, Aaron Summers 1.

SWINDON 42: Jason Doyle 15, Rohan Tungate 7, Nick Morris 6+1, Justin Sedgmen 5+1, Charles Wright 5, Josh Grajczonek 3, Stefan Nielsen 1.
