Robins produced perfect performance, says Rossiter
The Swindon Robins rode to arguably their most dominant performance of the season so far with a 55-36 victory over the Coventry Bees on Monday night. Total Sport’s Ryan Walker caught up with Robins manager Alun Rossiter to get his reaction.
With Monday’s win earning the Swindon Robins their second highest points win of the season so far, it really was the complete performance from the Wiltshire club, and manager Rossiter couldn’t have been happier.
“It was pretty much the complete performance,” Rossiter began.
"Even though Nick didn’t have the best of nights, he certainly showed his potential," he added.
“At times it wasn’t just the gate starts like people have said that won us the meeting.
“Stefan came from the back to score in most of his rides but we just need to keep doing what we’re doing," he said.
The big victory at the Abbey Stadium certainly did the confidence of Rossiter’s men no harm going into a top of the table clash against the Wolverhampton Wolves on Thursday evening. But Rossiter insisted that regardless of results, he has always had belief in his side.
“We have always had belief in our ability and what we can achieve this year,” Rossiter stated.
“We’ve been waiting to get the whole team firing together.
“And you can see the difference that it makes with the likes of Rohan [Tungate] performing at his best tonight.
“Nick [Morris] will have another meeting Thursday and I’m sure he will be back on form then," he added.
With Justin Sedgmen starting to once again bring in the high scores, there could be a mix-up within the side once again with Morris’s heat leader role possibly under threat given the new average rule changes put in place for the 2016 Elite League.
Rossiter however explained that he wasn’t too worried about possible change.
“No I’m not too worried about possible switches within the side.” Rossiter admitted.
“I know that if Sedgmen does have to move up into one of the heat leader roles then it won’t be a problem.
“He is in a good place at the moment and the riding that he is doing out in Poland is massively helping him.
“He’s practicing all week out there and showing hard determination so it is certainly benefitting him," said Rossiter.
A win over League leaders Wolverhampton on Thursday would see the Swindon Robins move onto 34 points for the season so far and further tighten their hold on the playoffs.
Rossiter however explained how the playoffs are firmly at the back of his thoughts for the time being.
“I’m not too worried about the playoffs at the moment," he said.
"We are only halfway through the season and are in second place so there is still a long way to go.
“Loads of teams would love to be in our position so let’s not worry about it and I’m sure we will get there," he added.
Away from the Robins and Elite League Speedway, Alun Rossiter will have his Team GB thinking hat on as he prepares for the British Gran Prix in Cardiff at the weekend.
While excited about the competition, Rossiter admitted that with three British riders in contention it could provide a further headache as he tries to pick his side for the World Cup squad come the end of July.
“It will be very good at the weekend and I’m really looking forward to it," he said.
“It’s always a great competition to attend and hopefully the British boys can show me why they should be in the World Cup squad."
