Robinson: Every game is a cup final now

THEO ROBINSON was full of praise for his teammates as Swindon Town scored four goals in their rout of Morecambe at the County Ground earlier today to record their biggest victory of the season. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Swindon following the match.

A fast start saw Swindon take control of the game within the games initial ten minutes as Robinson headed past Mark Halstead to open the scoring. And when speaking following the game, Robinson explained how the first goal helped Swindon to play with freedom.

“When you get that first goal you can start to play better football,” said Robinson.

“I thought we played good football and worked it quite well. The goal went in and we kept on going.

“We tried to do the right things and the final pass was there today. I thought the rotation between the front four was on point today and Keshi [Anderson] and Benno [Kyle Bennett] got in those pockets and allowed me to make runs in behind,” he said.

An away trip to the high-flying Bury awaits Swindon in their next fixture, and Robinson told of how every game is a ‘cup final’ between now and the end of the season as Swindon look to push for the playoffs.

“We just wanted to replicate what we could do in training and the attacking football we worked on showed today,” explained the striker.

“You take the positives with the clean sheet and the three points and if everyone stays consistent then we can go to Bury full of confidence.

“It’s another cup final, we have another eight to go and we just take each game as it comes.

“You never know what could happen so we just have to concentrate on ourselves,” said Robinson.

Having not scored since Swindon’s 1-1 draw against Grimsby at the end of February, Robinson’s 10th minute goal put Swindon in control against Morecambe. And the 30-year-old striker praised his manager for showing faith in him.

“It’s better for me to start most games because you know what you need to do and as a striker you need a run of games,” he said.

“Some games you might not score but the manager sticks with you and the chance comes then you take it.

“The ball was there to be won, I got a whack in the face going for it but I’ll take it because I got the goal,” added Robinson.
