Rossiter concentrating on results, not Elite League table

The wins keep streaming in for Swindon Robins, who have this week enjoyed back to back victory, pushing them towards the peak of the Elite League summit. Total Sport's Ryan Walker caught up with boss Alun Rossiter following Thursday's victory over Wolverhampton.

After Monday’s home victory over the Coventry Bees, it’s been two victories in the space of a week for the Swindon Robins, and manager Rossiter couldn’t be happier.

“It was a really good win from the boys tonight," Rossiter began.

“It was a bit close at times and a bit nip and tuck at the end.

“We had to make sure they didn’t take a point away from the meeting so I needed to put the big gun [Jason Doyle] out in heat fifteen.” He said.

A closely fought home defeat to the Wolverhampton Wolves earlier in the year saw Rossiter’s men with a point to prove, and admitted it was a very successful night for his side.

“ It was good to get one back against them,” Rossiter admitted.

“ I don’t think they’re quite as strong as they were at the start of the year.

“ But they are still a very good side," he added.

A bad patch of form at the end of May saw the Swindon Robins lose three meetings in a row, however a month later and four successive wins. Alun Rossiter believes they have put that behind themselves.

“We’re getting there back to where we should be weak by weak," Rossiter explained.

“All the boys keep chipping in with points and we are performing like a team.

“We lost Stefan tonight and therefore only had one reserve in one race so all in all I think it was a very good result against a very good side," said Rossiter.

Victory over Wolverhampton sees the Blunsdon outfit surge back into second place in the table on thirty-four points. And,  while admitting ithe value of being in the top position, Rossiter was honest in saying that he doesn’t pay much attention to the standings.

“The boys and I try not to pay too much attention to the table," Rossiter stated.

“We need to just keep going and putting as many points as possible on the board.

“The playoffs is still the aim and I’m happy we will get there," he added.

With the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix taking place in Cardiff over the weekend, Rossiter believes the event presents an opportunity for him to see how the British riders perform as he nears his decision for picking the Team GB squad for the upcoming World Cup.

“I’m looking forward to the GP at the weekend and it will be good to see what the British boys will do," replied Rossiter.

“I haven’t picked my team yet for the World Cup but have got a few ideas going around my head now," he added.
