Rossiter delighted with Robins victory, Musielak future in doubt

ALUN ROSSITER backed his Swindon Robins riders to go all the way to the top of the Speedway Great Britain Premiership following his side’s fantastic 50-40 victory over the King’s Lynn Stars last night. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Robins manager following the result.

A fantastic evening of racing saw Rossiter’s side enter the play-off positions after Swindon dominated proceedings at the Abbey Stadium. Speaking following the result, the team manager was full of praise for his squad.

“We knew it was going to be tough but I was confident in our boys here,” said Rossiter.

“The track was a bit overwatered at the beginning which caused a few problems but after that, it settled down and we got some good racing.

“We’ve just got to keep going and keep banging in the points,” he added.

“We really need to get something on the road as well.

“The combination of injuries, the replacements not being able to replace the riders means it's not been as easy as just getting the boys all to go well,” he said.

“The guest riders we’ve had in haven’t been able to score anything so it has been difficult.

“We’re still going for the top spot and it isn’t out of the way yet,” said the team manager.

Victory over their Norfolk counterparts saw the Swindon Robins make it five straight home wins at the Abbey Stadium.

And whilst delighted with the performances, Rossiter was modest when asked about the Abbey establishing itself as a racing fortress for Swindon before revealing that Stefan Nielsen has left the club.

“Hopefully [it is] but I don’t want to speak too soon or we’ll end up getting tripped over,” he said.

“As long as we keep doing what we’re doing and riding it well then we’ll be good.

“Stefan won’t be coming back now, unfortunately.

“Claus (Vissing) will be in as a full-time rider,” said Rossiter.

A high-scoring performance from Rossiter’s side saw Frenchman David Bellego score eight points as the 26-year-old continues his impressive run of form whilst acting as injury-replacement for Tobiasz Musielak.

But as Musielak steps up his recovery from injury, Rossiter admitted he will soon have to make a decision as to whether Bellego will stay at the club in place of the Polish racer.

“I don’t know at the moment,” stated Rossiter.

“It’s a decision I’ve got to make shortly.

“When I get around to it, it will be a tough decision because David [Bellego] has certainly come in and done a fantastic job.

“A lot of thought will go into the decision,” said the manager.
