Rossiter praises team effort after victory over Coventry Bees

With the Swindon Robins racing to their first 2016 Elite League victory of the season at the hands of the Coventry Bees with an emphatic 55–35 win, TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker caught up with manager Alun Rossiter to get his reaction on the nights events.

After enduring a difficult opening away defeat to reigning Elite League champions Poole Pirates last Friday, the Swindon Robins needed to bounce back quick and manager Rossiter insists last night’s performance was the perfect response.

“It was a fantastic team performance tonight and I felt that our youngsters almost bullied the older Coventry boys tonight,” Rossiter began.

“Tonight was like a fresh start for us given what happened last week. We knew Poole were going to be a tough side and it was a hard meeting.

“But tonight has been great to bounce back, getting a good start, getting a good crowd in and really building the teams confidence," he added.

“The season isn’t won in the first couple of meetings but tonight was a great team result.”

With Jason Doyle being the only rider in the team over the age of 30, Swindon have one of the youngest squads in the League, something that Rossiter feels works to his advantage believing that the younger riders have the upper hand given their raw racing attitude that they can beat anyone.

“My riders will always have a go and that’s what this team is about,” Rossiter said.

“But at the same time we’ve got to be patient. We’re going to have ups and downs this year, tonight was great but it’s going to be tough Monday night against Wolves.

“You just have to bear with us but this team will only get better," he added.

After such a positive performance as last night’s victory over the Coventry Bees, it is understandable that many fans will be optimistic of a successful season for the Wiltshire club. However manager Alun Rossiter reiterates that he doesn’t want anyone to get carried away yet.

“I think we should have a good season this year," Rossiter said.

But people are going to just have to be a bit patient with us as well.

“It’s only our second meeting together as a team and we’ve just put 20 points over against a good Coventry side. One of the most positive things about tonight is the performance," he added.

“Grajczonek was outstanding, Morris was getting back to his best, Doyley [Jason Doyle] was fantastic and showed he is a true number one. Justin [Sedgmen] struggled a bit tonight but he will definitely come good and Rohan [Tungate] will only continue to get better,“ Rossiter explained.

Not only did the riders put on a great performance, Rossiter also praised the support of the large crowd that turned up at the Abbey Stadium to cheer on the Swindon Robins and insisted that big crowds are always a massive boost for the riders.

“A big crowd like tonight massively helps the riders,“ Insisted Rossiter.

“When they get behind the riders like tonight it does make a big difference and I think that the boys demonstrated that on the track,“ He added.
