Russell departs Swindon Town with immediate effect
Swindon Town confirmed head of football Jamie Russell has left the club with immediate effect.
Russell is reportedly heading back to Salford City, with Town owner Clem Morfuni confirming his departure from the Nigel Eady County Ground earlier today.
He said: “Jamie was pivotal in driving the growth of our Academy.
“Since his arrival, 18 players have made their debuts for the first team, two players moved to category one clubs and most recently, Ben Head has been selected to join England Under-15 for their upcoming training camp at St George's Park.
"Since transitioning to become our head of football, Jamie has continued to show determination and passion for our club, in all teams and we are grateful for his contributions."
Russell leaves Town 22nd in League Two, with 13 points from 17 games played.
Town fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions on the departure.
Absolutely terrified that there isn’t a single line around succession planning in this article. The transfer window opens in 36 days and we are bottom of the league without a director of football. #stfc #ClemItsTime https://t.co/XErEYFhNai

No mention of why? No mention of who’s taking on this role?

Jamie Russell placed in a position he was unfit for. Great with the academy, terrible first team recruitment. A fall guy.

It shows the incompetence of the ownership as it is not the first terrible staff signing.

A fan protest group called The Spirit of '69 has been formed against Morfuni’s ownership.
They are promising "non-obstructive" protests on matchdays.
Today we call on #STFC fans to unite.

Clem Morfuni is provably incompetent; he is not capable of running our football club & should welcome interest from those who may be.
This is our STFC community, united and fighting for our STFC.
