Sedgmen Preparing To Race Idol On Boxing Day

New Swindon Robins acquisition Justin Sedgmen will come head-to-head with a legend of speedway this weekend, as he prepares to face a man who he admits was his idol when entering the sport.

Sedgmen, back with the Robins for a second spell in 2016, will race in the Jason Crump Invitational at Kurri Kurri on Saturday, and triple World Champion Crump himself will feature in the meeting.

Sedgmen insists he’s relishing the prospect of racing alongside one of his idols.

He said: "I can't wait to race on Boxing Day, it will be a fantastic experience to race against one of the biggest names in speedway history.

“Jason is always someone that I admired. He wasn't only a speedway rider, he was a brand within the sport and led the way for young Australians to shine not only in the UK but throughout Europe as well.

"I am close to his father Phil, who I know had a huge influence on his career, and I hope that some of what they have achieved in the sport can rub off on me."

Sedgmen will use the event as part of his preparation for the forthcoming Australian Championship.

"This is an important event for me in terms of getting my focus ahead of the first round of the Australian titles,” he said.

"As soon as I came home back in October I started to think about it and it's a huge ambition of mine to better last year.

"I'm more determined than ever, 2016 is going to be a massive year for me and I want to make strides forward in both team and individual racing.

My main focus for now though is the Australian Championships and preparing properly for the series," he added.
