SHERIDAN CALLS OUT LACK OF LEADERS IN SWINDON TOWN SQUAD

JOHN SHERIDAN deemed last night’s Swindon Town loss to Plymouth a ‘worrying’ defeat for the club and called out his side’s lack of leaders as the Robins remained amongst the League One relegation zone. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Swindon Town manager following the match.

Goals from Plymouth Argyle’s Panutche Camara and Ryan Hardie either side of half-time saw Swindon Town slump to a third consecutive home defeat at SN1.

Speaking after the game, Sheridan labelled the loss ‘worrying’ as his players failed to impress across the 90 minutes.

“It was a poor performance and we didn’t deserve anything from the game,” said Sheridan.

“I’ve come out a few times since I’ve been here and tried to explain that performance-wise I think we deserved more from games, but that performance was a worrying performance for me.

“We know the situation we are in and if I’m going back the last few games against some big teams we’ve produced good performances,” he added.

“We come into a home game tonight against Plymouth and I expect us to perform a lot lot better and expect us to take the game to the opposition and I felt we never really got going.

“The type of goals we’re conceding are getting a bit of a joke now,” he said.

Sitting two points away from safety inside the League One relegation zone, Swindon will need to pick up wins in upcoming fixtures against relegation rivals.

And Sheridan decided to call out his side’s lack of leaders, admitting performances must improve if the club is to avoid relegation this season.

“Yeh I don’t think we have enough leaders out on the pitch,” said Sheridan.

“But a leader isn’t someone who is just the loudest person on the pitch, it’s the way you go about your game and the way you play.

“We need leaders on the pitch and people who are going to fight.

“I have got a good dressing room and there isn’t anyone in there who makes me worry that they won’t fight for the cause,” he added.

“But the performance tonight makes me worry and I’ve just got to get the players together and pull them around and we have to try and produce performances like Ipswich and Charlton.

“I expect us to do better,” said Sheridan.
