SPEEDWAY OPINION: Jason Doyle is ready to be the best in the world

Following Jason Doyle's progression to the final of the Slovenian Grand Prix, Total Sport's Ryan Walker believes the Swindon rider can become the best in the world.

After reaching the final of the first Speedway Grand Prix in Krsko, Slovenia, at the weekend, Swindon Robins captain Jason Doyle proved to any remaining doubters that he is 100% ready to challenge for the World Championship once again.

If you had said two years ago that the Australian ace would be challenging for the number one spot in the World, many, including Doyle, wouldn’t have believed you.

However, after successive world number five finishes, including leading the World Championships last season before suffering a horrific season ending injury at the Torun Grand Prix, the odds are firmly in Doyle’s race pit once again as many tip him for success on the grand stage.

Doyle’s performance on Saturday was typical of the 31-year-old as he looked super quick all night and dominated much of the proceedings albeit finishing fourth in the final. But after a great start to both his domestic and GP season, what can be expected of Jason Doyle this year?

In years gone by Doyle has always stated that his main aim was to make the top eight in the GP standings and then see what happens.

But this year his passion, determination, and unwavering ferocity on and off the track gives you the idea that he will settle for nothing less than to be crowned World Champion come the Australian Grand Prix in October.

And when speaking to the Robins captain, it’s clear that he expects nothing but the best from himself and his team, and is in many ways a perfectionist. But when the going gets tough, there is no rider you would rather have than Jason Doyle.

His talent on a bike is unquestionable, his hunger to exceed expectations is never in doubt, but his calmness on and off the bike is most impressive, and his progress over the past two years has gained the respect of all who previously doubted him.

It may only be one Grand Prix into the season, but the fact of the matter is that in Speedway there is no time start slow and build up your form as the year progresses, and thankfully for the Swindon Robins, his sponsors, and himself, Jason Doyle has started as he means to go on, and will push until the very end to achieve his dream of becoming the best rider in the World.
