Following last week’s news of netminder Lyle asking to be released from his Wildcats’ contract and forward Aaron Nell stepping up to fill the position as head coach, the club have come to an agreement with the 36-year-old to return as a player for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.
Wildcats’ general manager Steve Nell said: “Stevie will be returning as a player and we are delighted to have him back. Stevie is a great goalie and is a massive part of our club”.
The club have also added that before the decision was made for Lyle to return to the Wildcats set-up, the club had agreed he could act as cover for Belfast Giants, with netminder Stephen Murphy soon to become a father.
The club have stated Lyle will step in for the netminder should the need arise, meaning he could be unavailable for Swindon if called upon in such instances.
Lyle’s comeback is timely, as Wildcats face the league’s top two sides this weekend in the form of MK Lightning and Basingstoke Bison.
The club have today also announced the appointment of Lee Richardson as assistant captain for the 2015/16 captain, beginning this weekend at MK.
