0871 876 1993Goals from Paul Benson, Andy Williams and substitute Troy Archibald-Henville secured Town’s path through, in spite of former Robins favourite Charlie Austin’s second half strike for the Clarets.
Town made a shaky start to the clash, and might have found themselves behind within ten minutes as Austin powered a Ross Wallace corner goalwards, only for Alan Navarro to clear off the line.
As the hosts began to find their feet they looked ever more likely to open the scoring, and they did just that after 19 minutes, as recalled striker Paul Benson latched on to a pinpoint Jay McEvely cross and steered it past Clarets ‘keeper Brian Jensen to make it 1-0.
Town survived a scare moments after as Wes Foderingham fumbled a goalbound header from Chris McCann, but the ‘keeper smothered the loose ball to keep his side's lead intact.
And Town made it two just before the half time whistle, as in-form striker Williams stole clear of the Burnley backline and rolled the ball under Jensen.
Eddie Howe’s visitors flew out of the blocks in the second half, and would have pulled a goal back but for a fantastic reaction save from Foderingham to deny half time substitute Sam Vokes.
Williams and Matt Ritchie both came close to adding a third for Town after the hosts reacted to the Clarets’ bright start, but it was former County Ground favourite Austin who added the game's next goal to set up a tense finish.
The striker raced on to a pass from Vokes, coolly rounded Foderingham and slotted home to make it 2-1 after 74 minutes.
But, despite a few shaky moments in the game’s closing moments, former Exeter City man Archibald-Henville popped up after 83 minutes to head another McEvely cross past Jensen to put the result beyond doubt.
