Swindon appoint Dean Thornton as goalkeeping coach

Swindon manager Luke Williams has confirmed that Dean Thornton is the new goalkeeping coach at the club.

Thornton had been spotted sporting a Swindon Town training top with 'DT' on during the abandoned derby at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday and it is now official that he is part of the coaching set-up at SN1.

He had previously been the Head Academy Goalkeeper Coach at Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers since 2007.

"Dean has come in from QPR where he has been working with the academy," Williams said.

"He comes to us very highly recommended and has really hit the ground running and took the bull by the horns.

"He has got stuck into training with the boys and made a good first impression so we are very pleased to have him with us."

Thornton replaces Steve Hale as goalkeeping coach, as Hale left the club for Forest Green Rovers to join up with ex-Town boss Mark Cooper again.
