Swindon boss Luke Williams confirms Kasim missed Gillingham clash with injury

Following Swindon's 1-1 draw with Gillingham on Tuesday night, Town boss Luke Williams confirmed Yaser Kasim's absence from the matchday squad was due to injury.

When the 18-man squad for Gillingham was initially announced without Kasim and it sparked fears the Iraq international may be about to leave the club as Premier League otfits Swansea City and Watford have been linked to him in the past.

"He (Kasim) was very close to making it (for Gillingham). Yaser did a recovery session after Chesterfield and felt normal, just post-match soreness and then yesterday woke up and felt very, very tight in his groin.

"We have scanned it and there is nothing there of any concern, it is just a soreness in there that is too strong for him to be able to move freely and it is a risk so we decided to pull him out of the squad."

Williams also told the local media that striker Luke Norris is making "good, steady progess" with his rehabilitation.

"It is unfortunate as he came in (to the Swindon set-up) quite fatigued, not really having a full pre-season behind him but I don't think it is going to anything that keeps him out for too long."
