Website 0330 002 1993Garner on lack of transfer action this window:
"There is no one that we have missed out on. It's just been the process that has been ongoing with the players we are speaking to and would like to bring to the football club. It's the same in the summer with Louis Reed for example who took probably a month from start to finish. Rather than after two weeks thinking we need to move on, we wanted to focus on the players we wanted and it's the same now.
"The situation sometimes changes with loan players but we have done a lot of good work, had some great conversations, and we are very hopeful of bringing some very good players to the club who will improve us."
Garner on Swindon's leadership group:
"That was me who started it a the start of the season. With the timeframe we had, it was important to get that going quickly. It wasn't a big thing it was just me speaking to them and getting them together as a sa group. They take care of fines, discipline, and the organisation in that dressing room. I don't want to have to go into that dressing room to be honest, it's the player's domain and a place for them to be comfortable, be themselves and for them to run it. You almost have to empower them to do that and we have built a good culture here. Huge credit to the players for what they have created and how they have done this season."
Garner on building team unity:
"I think quite a lot of the team unity is organic to be honest. When we recruited in the summer we did a lot of due diligence on the characters and their background. We tried to create a culture and environment to help that and we provide support for the players off the pitch in terms of accommodation, nutrition, etcetera.
"But a lot of it is credit to the players. We have a leadership group that I speak to very rarely to be honest but as much as possible I let them and the senior players run the dressing room. There is a really close group and lots of young hungry players who want to improve and get better."
Garner on Swindon's ability to bounce back after defeat:
"I think the team spirit is a big part of that and consistency has been the key thing. We don't change what we do. For example we in at Port Vale and we come in and have the same process and that is the same after defeat. We try and be consistent in our approach and moving on very quickly to the next game regardless what has happened."
Garner on Kaine Kesler-Hayden:
"We are in regular contact but have had no confirmation either way. We are still waiting on that."
Garner on Bristol's weaknesses:
"They had a slow start to the season but have certainly picked up a lot and have a lot of talented players in there with different attributes. They have brought in Ryan Loft now and they have huge experience in their squad. They quite often change shape and we will be ready for that."
?
Garner on the meaning of double victory over Bristol:
"First and foremost it would be fantastic for us to get the three points. We would love to win for the supporters but from a professional perspective we won't get drawn into that but hopefully, we can give the supporters something to cheer about."
Garner on promotion:
"I think to put ourselves in the position we are in is incredible from where we started the season. We need to build on that and not lose sight of the hard work that needs to be done and if we do that successfully then come what be."
Garner on transfers:
"We are open to all players and are looking down several different avenues at the moment. We want the best squad possible and are still under the embargo rules so we have to be realistic where we are. We are close on a couple of signings and I hope we have those deals done next week. We are light in terms of numbers but are good in terms of quality and everyone we have involved is ready to play."
Garner on Bristol Rovers:
"I think we need to be very intense with what we do particularly without the ball. We want as much control of that game tomorrow as we can and play on the front-foot. We want to try and re-create that domination against Port Vale as much as we can tomorrow and we know we have to be very good to win the game.
"Second half in the game at Rovers we were excellent and if we can hit those levels again I will be very pleased. We have had a very good week of training but no two games are ever the same."
Garner on derby weekend:
"I don't enjoy them as a spectator, I am purely focused on the game and the better the atmosphere is here the atmosphere is really good and that helps us. That's what we want tomorrow and we want the 3 points. The bigger the crowd the more atmosphere is generated. Our focus is on the pitch but naturally, there is an influence from the stands and in the Man City game it was incredible. We want that as much as possible and we know that is on us to perform."
Garner on JoJo Wollacott:
"He arrived back last night and is due in this morning. I haven't spoke to him in detail but have sent him a few messages. We are delighted to have him back in the fold here. Anyone that knows Joe knows he has a fantastic mentality and his focus when he comes in this morning will be on training and that will be important for him for the rest of his career."
Garner on Gladwin contract extension:
"From a footballing point of view it was a simple decision as we really like Ben as a player and a person. He is great in the dressing room and he is a very intelligent footballer. He has been available all season, is in a good place physically and is in a good stage of his career where he wants to stay here and be a part of what we want to do moving forward.
"I think sometimes looks can be deceiving and sometimes what you see is what you believe but if you look at the numbers behind it then you see the difference. His physical output is very high every game and we have no concerns with Ben."
Garner on injuries:
"Jack Payne is not available but he has progressed well and is back on the grass. We hope to put him back in team training next week. Mathieu Baudry has had a really good week training with the team and everyone else is good.
"We've had 1 soft tissue injury and they are the ones you have to try and control. Impact injuries are out of your hands and our focus from day one has been a consistent training week with our sports science behind the scenes being of very high quality."
