Swindon manager Luke Williams defiant on club's style of play

Town chief Luke Williams insists Swindon's philosophy of possession-based football is the right way going forward, despite recent poor form.

As a result of Swindon's 1-3 defeat to Northampton Town on Tuesday night, the Robins have lost four of their last five matches in the league, with three of them coming at home to Bury, Bristol Rovers, and of course the Cobblers.

It means Swindon now sit 18th in the League One table and are just two points clear of the relegation zone after 10 matches.

Swindon dominated possession against Rob Page's men, having 56% of the ball, while also having 20 shots with nine of them on target, but three of Northampton's four shots on target resulted in goals for the away side.

Following the final whistle, Williams told the media that Town's style of play is not the reason for the current slump.

"The style of play (is not a problem), no. Absolutely not," Williams said.

"If we play this game tonight much more defensive and a lot of players closer to our own goal and we don't try to manoeuvere the ball we get beat 3-0 for sure.

"So I think the style of play is the least of our problems, we need to be better in key areas."

Town's next match is at Shrewsbury Town, who do recide in the bottom four currently, on October 1.
