Swindon Move Up The League Table: What Are The Odds On A Positive Season?
Swindon Town finished last season in sixth place, just seven points behind Forest Green. Going into the new League Two season, the Robins again set their eye on the layoff position. However, the start of the season wasn't what fans or management expected. After a lacklustre opening, Swindon Town rebounded and is lately performing much better. But will that be enough to turn the season around?
Terrible start in 2022/23
The opening game at Harrogate Town couldn't have gone worse for Swindon Town. The Robins were defeated convincingly, and a 3-0 win was one of only two wins so far for Harrogate, a club that is close to the bottom of the table.
The next few games weren't much better. Swindon Town played a goalless draw against Salford City and played out 1-1 draws with Carlisle and Leyton Orient. The game with Leyton was somewhat a turning point, as it was the only draw for undefeated Orient.
In the last five League Two games, Swindon battled through to make three wins out of five against Rochdale, Sutton United, and Doncaster, earning draws against Stockport and Gillingham.
What oddsmakers say
Swindon Town’s up and down performance, where the team creates chances but fails to score as much as needed, doesn't resonate well with bookmakers. Leyton Orient is the top favourite to win the League Two title. For now, according to bookies, Swindon Town has around a 2% chance to go for the trophy but, surprisingly, has the tenth-best odds in the division.
While punching your game ticket, you could visit the casino part of the online bookie, especially if you like the thrill and the risk aspect of sports gambling. For example, you could consider playing 32Red live roulette online, as you will have the opportunity to practice playing with the odds and betting the right way, which could inform your decision making and how far you want to go when it comes to the League Two season.
Unfortunately, if bookmakers are correct, and let’s face it, they usually are, the odds predict Swindon Town won't make it to the playoff positions, which will mean another season may well be somewhat wasted.
Northampton, Mansfield Town, Bradford City, Salford City, and Stevenage have eyes set on the top spots and have shown more in the league at the time of writing than has Swindon Town.
Long season
Swindon Town is currently holding 11th place, but 11th place is only two points behind the playoff positions. The season is long, and as a positive, the team has only one defeat so far in the season. After a terrible opener, Swindon Town is undefeated; however, the problem is the Robins have too many draws to make a statement in the league.
The leading scorer so far this season is Jacob Wakeling, with four goals. Besides the English striker, who has so far started nine games, Welsh midfielder Johnatan Williams has scored two.
Outside of League Two, Swindon Town recently experienced a difficult 3-1 loss against Plymouth Argyle in the Football League Trophy competition. However, the team didn't play as badly as the final score indicates, and the silver lining is the first goal of the season for Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, who came off the bench. If he continues to perform in the league, it could revitalise the somewhat stagnant attack for Swindon Town.
The following fixtures on the schedule bring up Grimsby, a club a few spots ahead of Robins on the table, a postponed game against Newport, and visit Stevenage.
The team manager Scott Lindsey was happy with the latest win at Doncaster and feels the team has bought into what the coaching staff is trying to do. Swindon Town tries to play a high-press possession game, which is not easy to perfect.
The latest scores did build up momentum, and after ten games, Swindon Town has only one defeat, creating a positive buzz with the fans and among players. If the team can manage to build on the momentum and find better finishing touches, the Robins could defy oddsmakers and make their push towards a playoff spot and maybe even more.
