Swindon Robins 50 Wolverhampton 41: Rider ratings
It was two wins in one week for the Swindon Robins after they continued their search for Elite League glory with a thrilling 50-41 victory over League leaders the Wolverhampton Wolves on Thursday night at the Abbey Stadium.
The win sees the Robins surge back into second place of the British Elite League on 34 points. And after a fantastic night of action packed Speedway, Total Sport’s Ryan Walker gave his Robins rider ratings.
Jason Doyle: 9
Another meeting and another fantastic performance from the Swindon Robins skipper saw him race to another impressive 14 points on the night having only been beaten once. Great gate starts from the Captain gave Doyle a platform to build on, with the Aussie ace especially enjoying racing out of gate four, but his all round speed, smart thinking and aggressiveness certainly showed how great a rider Jason Doyle really is.
Rohan Tungate: 7
Staying in the number two jersey after some impressive performances in recent meetings, Rohan Tungate proved his worth once again with another solid performance scoring 6 points on the night. A tough opening to the night saw Tungate collide with teammate Jason Doyle in a first turn incident and was subsequently excluded. A good night all round but more is definitely still to come from the talented Australian.
Nick Morris: 3
An extremely difficult night saw Swindon fan favourite Nick Morris struggle to find his best, scoring just 3 points from the meeting. Finding it hard to find the right bike set-ups and struggling for track time this season has seen Morris endure an up and down year so far. Everyone knows the immense amount of talent that Nick Morris possesses and I’m sure he will bounce back to his best soon.
Justin Sedgmen: 7
Two in-form meetings for the Swindon Robins this week saw Justin Sedgmen ride to an impressive 8 points at the Abbey Stadium on Thursday evening. Riding out in Poland for Zielona Gora really has seen the twenty-four year old riding at his best, and making some brilliant overtakes in the win over Wolves, Sedgmen is proving some of his pre-season critics wrong. With Justin piling the points on it might not be long until we see him back in a heat leader role.
Josh Grajczonek: 8
Big things were expected from Josh Grajczonek at the start of the season, and after riding to an amazing 9+3 on the night for the Swindon Robins, he certainly is making a big name for himself at the Wiltshire club. A night where Swindon’s number five had everything saw him perfect his gate starts, display some outstanding tactical riding and provide the best overtake of the night, passing Freddie Lindgren and Scott Nicholls down the home straight in Heat thirteen.
Charles Wright: 8
After Stefan Nielsen crashed in his opening ride and was withdrawn from the meeting, reserve rider Charles Wright certainly put in a superb shift for the Swindon Robins. Riding six heats on the night saw Wright race to double figures scoring 10 points in what was a much-needed victory for the Robins. Charles Wright certainly is the Blunsdon outfit’s secret weapon in reserve and is someone that manager Alun Rossiter always knows he can call on.
Stefan Nielsen: N/A
Crashed in his first heat of the night and was subsequently withdrawn from the rest of the meeting with a hand injury. Looked bad but should be back for Swindon’s next meeting away at Wolverhampton on the 18th of July.
