Swindon Robins 55 Coventry Bees 36: Rider ratings
A packed Abbey stadium saw a fantastic 55-36 victory for the Swindon Robins over the Coventry Bees in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The Wiltshire club now rise up the table once again to second in the table on 31 points. Total Sport's Ryan Walker delivers his rider ratings.
The Robins continued their dominance over the Midlands club with a third straight win of the season against the Bees. Here's how Total Sport assessed the performances.
Jason Doyle: 7
Ten points on the night from the Swindon skipper, Jason Doyle, helped the Swindon Robins earn a crucial victory over the Coventry Bees as they further tightened their grip on the playoff positions. A fantastic opening two rides from Doyle put him on track for yet another maximum, but a blip in heat eleven ended those hopes. With meetings coming thick and fast for the Grand Prix star, fatigue may have played a part. A strong performance from the Captain but more is still to come.
Rohan Tungate: 7
Struggling for form and consistency at times this season, Rohan Tungate certainly displayed his talent on a Speedway bike on Monday evening after riding to an impressive paid eight points. Unbeaten in his first three rides, Tungate looked extremely comfortable riding in the number two jersey and letting the bike do most of the work, but a poor gate start in heat eleven saw that run come to an end. More of the same please from the Alun Rossiter’s pocket rocket.
Nick Morris: 5
An upturn in fortunes for Swindon’s Nick Morris saw him recently hit a good run of form in one of the heat leader roles, but a difficult night on Monday evening meant the long-term Robin’s fan favourite took only one point from his opening two rides. Struggling to find the right set-up at the start of the meeting saw Morris gradually grow into the race and eventually scoring seven points. Consistency has been an issue for Morris this season but better performances are on the horizon.
Justin Sedgmen: 8
The star rider of the evening by a long stretch! Coming into Monday’s meeting at the Abbey Stadium, Justin Sedgmen had had a mixed season so far racing in the red of the Swindon Robins. However looking extremely fast on the evening, Sedgmen put in arguably his best performance of the season, racing to a dominant twelve points. Making great gate starts and riding hard racing lines on the evening saw Sedgmen top the Swindon scoring charts, and if this was an example of things to come, then teams should be afraid of Swindon’s number four.
Josh Grajczonek: 7
Finally starting to find his feet and also his form in one of the Swindon Robins heat leader roles this season, Josh Grajczonek more than played his part for the team after racing to an excellent seven paid nine points on the night. Heat of the night belonged to Grajczonek as well in heat seven as he partnered captain Doyle to a fantastic 5-1 heat maximum. Holding off the immediate challenge of recently crowned British champion Danny King, Grajczonek really did show his top talents on a bike.
Charles Wright: 7
Riding in reserve is never easy, but a paid eight points total on the night in the Swindon Robins victory over the Coventry Bees certainly did the confidence of Charles Wright no harm. A good evening all round for the twenty-eight year old saw him looking in good form as he constantly made solid starts and looked quick on the night.
Stefan Nielsen: 6
Another solid night from Stefan Nielsen in reserve saw him score a paid six points on the night. Struggling to make starts on the evening regularly saw Nielsen relegated to the back but his speed and skill on the bike regularly saw him hunt down his opponents and perform some impressive overtakes, most notably passing Josh Bates in heat four. An all round strong performance from the number seven.
