Swindon Robins Aussie duo look back on World Cup finals
Swindon pairing Jason Doyle and Josh Grajczonek were unable to help Australia claim a medal in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final.
Doyle roared to a stunning 15-point maximum in the Race-Off on Friday night as they booked their place in the Final at the National Speedway Stadium.
His M&S Van Rental Robins colleague Grajczonek also earned a late call-up as a replacement for the injured Max Fricke.
However, he failed to score from three rides having been thrown in at the deep end on his World Cup debut.
Doyle, meanwhile, scored seven points and was controversially excluded as he took a joker in heat 16 following a clash with Piotr Pawlicki.
Australia eventually ended with 22 points, eight short of bronze medalists Sweden whilst Alun Rossiter’s Great Britain side claimed second place and their first medal since 2006 behind victorious Poland.
Doyle and Grajczonek will be back in Swindon colours when they host play-off rivals King’s Lynn in a vital clash at the Abbey on Thursday (7.30).
