Swindon Speedway's Jason Doyle to launch his British season on Friday

Swindon Speedway's Jason Doyle is set to get his British season underway tonight (Friday), following a winter of worry.

Doyle takes his place in the Darcy Ward Invitational at Poole where he will brush shoulders with fellow international superstars such as Emil Sayfutdinov and Chris Holder.

The meeting also sees Doyle’s Abbey Stadium colleague Nick Morris in the field for a meeting which will raise funds for the Darcy Ward Foundation.

Doyle admits he’s pleased to get back to the business of racing after almost being denied a place in British racing because of restrictions in the Polish League – and an inflated started average under a revamp of the sport.

“It’s been a pretty stressful winter with what’s been happening in Poland and England,” he said.

“We didn’t really know for sure until a couple of weeks ago if we’d definitely be riding in England. The Polish Federation wanted us to ride in just Poland and make sure England was the second choice team, but the teams in England wouldn’t sign the papers for a while.

“We’ve managed to sort that out now thankfully, and I’m kind of just happy to have a place after the changes in Britain over the winter.

“It’s ridiculous, because we know we can’t get this average so I think they should have capped it at 12.”

Swindon host their press and practice next Thursday, March 30.

Gates will open to the public at 5pm and admission is free although the club do ask for a donation to St John Ambulance.

The team will be going through their paces on track until 18.15 approximately before heading back to the middle bar for 18.45 when they’ll be interviewed by Abbey presenter Richard Crowley along with team manager Alun Rossiter.
