Swindon Supermarine late show sends them into the play-offs

Swindon Supermarine moved into the playoffs spots once more with a hard-fought victory over local rivals Yate Town 2-0 at the Webbswood. Aleck Everard reports on Marine's win.

With players from both sides having recently swapped clubs in the summer this was always going to be a lively and tight affair.

The first half was deadlocked with Marine dominating the possession but unable to find a way past former keeper Martin Horsell in the Yate goal.

Henry Spalding and former Yate man Joe Tumelty were denied by the big custodian before a turning point arrived as the half drew to an end.

A late challenge on George Dowling by Darren Mullings saw the Bluebells midfielder dismissed and set up a second half onslaught to the Yate goal.

The visitors held on bravely for nearly 70 mins before Marine top scorer Harry Williams netted his 20th of the campaign – the fastest to react after a rebound off the keeper.

Substitute Conor McDonagh wrapped up the points with 8 minutes left, Williams feeding him through on goal and he finished deftly past the keeper to net his second in three games.
