Swindon Supermarine take their play-off challenge to the final day

Swindon Supermarine had their penultimate game of the season with a visit from play off chasing Poole Town with Swindon knowing only a win would keep their own slim chance alive.

Manager Lee Spalding opted for one change bringing in Saturday match winner Brad Hooper into the eleven replacing James Harding who dropped to the bench.

Poole started the better of the two sides but the game turned into a tight tactical midfield battle with little or no goalmouth action until just after the half hour when a Harry Williams effort was fielded by Cairney.

A good move saw Tumelty head straight at the keeper on 40 before Charlie Searle was finally called into action with a great save just before the break from a fierce shot by Corby Moore.

The warning wasn’t heeded by Swindon as Dickson’s fine run down the right ended with Tony Lee sending the ball into the corner of the net with a header right on the whistle.

A tough pill to swallow as there had been nothing between the two sides. Henry Spalding entered the fray on the break replacing Will Tunnicliff with Ryan Campbell once again dropping back to defence and he was soon joined by James Harding on for Joe Tumelty as Supermarine decided to up the ante and go for the leveller.

The decision seemed to work with Marine dominating most of the pressure with Poole content to hold on to what they had. Top scorer Harry Williams was forced off with injury in the 62nd minute replaced by Tom Sharpe.

With Poole seemingly home and dry as the minutes ticked down the game exploded into life with 7 minutes to go. A good run and shot by Zack Kotwica was well held before a series of corners put pressure on the Dolphins.

From one of these in the 85th minute the ball feel kindly to Ty Duffus who went for glory and slammed home an effort at the near post which the keeper could not keep out. It was just reward for the brave defenders effort on the night – 4 goals for the campaign. And the crazy end wasn’t over yet.

Brad Hooper ran through the back line in injury time but dragged the shot just wide before Ryan Campbell then earnt a late late corner with a run down the left

Jamie Edge’s inswinger ricocheted around the box before being lashed clear by a Poole defender only to see it strike Tom Sharpe and go into the goal for a late Marine winner!!

A fortuitous victory but a great one all the same!!! It means the play off chase goes to the final match. Swindon need a win and a Poole defeat and goal swing of 11. Unlikely but credit to the team taking it to the final match at home to Chesham at the weekend - £5 entry for all.
