James Harding returned from a back injury to the bench but Lewis Hall and Tom Sharpe remained out with injury.
After some early to and froing it was Marine who struck first and who else but top scorer Harry Williams netted. Zack Kotwica won the ball off the full back and played in Williams who made no mistake with a calm finish past the keeper on 11 minutes.
Ryan Campbell came close to making it two but his effort on the turn was stopped by keeper Wilks. Marine were looking confident after their goal and Sam Turl broke through on goal just before the half hour but was harshly adjudged to have fouled his man.
It wasn’t until 32 minutes that Liam Armstrong was called into action with a brave take at the feet of the impressive Odelusi. Hayes were starting to put some more pressure on at the end of the half but Marine were defending well as the half drew to a close.
Indeed Swindon started the second period on top and when Williams broke through again he appeared to be clipped just as he was about to shoot but incredibly the referee waved away the appeal. Then just as it looked like a second was coming the visitors hit Marine with a sucker punch on their first attack.
A shot from Wassmer was stopped on the line by Tunnicliff but rebounded back to Wiltshire who blasted home on 56 minutes.
Marine’s response was spiritied and Tumelty was brought down on the edge of the box only for Dowling to hit the free kick straight at the wall but from the next attack the visitors took the lead with their second effort on target.
Cole Brown played in a 1-2 with Emmanuel before finishing from an acute angle to shell shock the Supermarine backline.
Lee Spalding decided to chase the game and made a triple sub bringing on Hooper, McDonagh and Spalding for Kotwica, Dowling and Tumelty but before they could readjust to the extra man up top Hayes hit a third on 64 minutes. A quick break saw Reece Cole net for a 3-1 lead.
The game then went into a quieter period before a key moment with 9 minutes left. Moses Emmanuel broke into the box on the left and went down theatrically but it didn’t stop the referee pointing to the spot. It looked soft but Emmanuel made no mistake from the spot kick sending Armstrong the wrong way.
It was another spirited response from Swindon though who wouldn’t give it up easily and with 5 minutes left made it 4-3 after a corner. Will Tunnicliff bundling home close in after a scramble for his first goal for the club.
Marine continued to chase a leveller with McDonagh having a shot well held but pushing a bit too hard left the hosts exposed at the back and Reece Cole capitalised with a low shot from the right beating Armstrong for a fifth goal and sealing the points.
A disappointing second half for Marine but the game turned on some big decisions that didn’t go in our favour against a very good attacking outfit.
