Swindon Team News For Carlisle Trip

Ben Gladwin, Dion Conroy, and Jack Payne will all miss out on today’s trip to Carlisle United as Ben Garner’s Swindon Town seek a second consecutive victory against a relegation-threatened side. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to Robins Head Coach Ben Garner to get the latest on team news yesterday.

Having hobbled off against Scunthorpe at the weekend, Swindon’s ever-reliable midfielder Ben Gladwin now faces a stretch of time on the sidelines with Garner revealing that a damaged hamstring will keep the 29-year-old out of action.

Garner said: “Ben Gladwin has, unfortunately, got some damage in his hamstring from Scunthorpe and that will rule him out for a period of time.

“We have an idea but I never like to say that because you open things up by doing that. He will certainly miss a few games but he has a positive mindset and is already underway with his rehab and recovery.

“We will get him back as quick as we can and hopefully he can have a strong finish to the season,” he said.

Garner also gave an update on Jack Payne revealing the playmaker was still unavailable for selection but gave a positive update insisting Payne wasn’t far away from being selected, whilst giving the green light for Jonny Williams to feature against Carlisle.

“Jack Payne is progressing but it is just one of those injuries where you have to take it step-by-step in the final stages. He is ticking boxes daily but hasn’t completed a full training session yet,” he said.

“He is getting there and we are getting to the closing stages of that now.

“Jonny Williams is good and he trained fully for the first time on Thursday so he will travel and be in the squad which is great,” Garner added.

Additionally, Club Captain Dion Conroy remains unavailable for selection having suffered an achilles injury but following an injection should be available for next week’s game against Salford City.

“Dion Conroy is getting closer and I imagine he will be available from next week, I don’t see any issues with that.

“He hasn’t done a full training session yet but will do that early next week and then come back into the fold.

“There is progress on a lot of the fronts and we have lost Ben [Gladwin} and we will focus on recovering him and getting him back as fit as possible.

“The scans were all good, he just needed an injection into his achilles which takes a few days to settle down. He should be fine from next week hopefully,” said Garner.
