Swindon Town 1 Oldham Athletic 2: Player ratings

The late 2-1 loss to Oldham on Tuesday night now means Lee Power’s side sit one place off the bottom of League One, with only 12 points after 14 games played. Here’s how the players fared in their performances against the Latics...

Lawrence Vigouroux – Always looked to play the ball out from the back, despite the recent howler which occurred against Peterborough two weeks ago; a sure sign of confidence. Reacted well early on to produce a superb double save to deny Winchester and Wilson respectively. 6/10

Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill – The instigator of frequent runs down the left flank in the second half. Was a constant worry for the Oldham back line, and his crossing grew in strength as the game progressed. 7/10

Drissa Traore – Looked to be the anchor in the centre of midfield. It came off for the Ivorian in spells, though he was at times caught in possession. His performance was perhaps hindered by Yaser Kasim not firing on all cylinders. 6/10

Yaser Kasim – Didn’t quite look his usual self on Tuesday evening. His customary neat footwork and composure on the ball was lacking and the midfielder was caught in possession in various dangerous situations, namely the edge of his own box during the first half. 5/10

Nicky Ajose – A quiet first half by his account. Got Swindon’s only goal of the game in the second and took it well, keeping his composure after being initially denied by Cornell. Without doubt a forward who needs constant service, Ajose never looked like conjuring up a piece of solo magic. 6/10

James Brophy – Looked lively on the right, but didn’t offer a great deal. Had an opportunity in the first half to hit the ball on the volley from around the penalty spot following a Robins’ corner. Opted not to take this option and instead hit a misjudged pass out wide – a decision which perhaps summarised his judgement for the evening. Later replaced by Balmy. 5/10

Ben Gladwin – A strong first half was met with a relatively quiet second. Went missing in periods throughout the second 45, though he was responsible for a fine dummy which gave Drissa Traore a golden opportunity to strike. Ultimately popped up when it mattered most to assist Ajose for the Swindon goal. 6/10

Anton Rodgers – His passing was on form, though the midfielder didn’t get on the ball enough to make this worthwhile. One of the poorly oiled cogs in a non-functioning Robins’ midfield. 5/10

Bradley Barry – Worked hard but to little avail. An important player for Swindon though didn’t offer much as Oldham dominated the midfield. 5/10

Raphael Rossi-Branco – Strong at the back, an ever presence in the Robins’ back line. Responsible for clearing an effort off the line after Vigouroux saved from Higdon. 6/10

Adam El-Abd – Saved the Robins on a few occasions. Was tough in the tackle throughout, and always looked to get things moving when playing from the back. Despite the score line, a reasonable performance from the new man, who is still finding his feet in Robins’ colours. 7/10

Substitutes

Jeremy Balmy – Came on to replace Brophy. Didn’t have much opportunity to impose himself upon the game. Nice feet in flashes and always seems to show the potential which he has to make something of himself at Swindon. Consistency will be the pivotal issue for the Frenchman. 5/10
