Swindon Town 2 Walsall 1: Player Ratings

Against the odds and the majority of play during Tuesday night's clash, the Robins recorded a last gasp victory over League One high-flyers Walsall, giving Martin Ling and his side momentum to build upon.

Despite taking the lead after a Jon Obika header, Swindon soon found themselves on the back foot following a Saddlers' equaliser and the gradual application of pressure. But, as the clock ticked away into the 90th minute, midfielder Louis Thompson picked up the ball on the edge of the area and sent his effort crashing into the bottom corner of the Walsall goal. Total Sport's Danny Gallagher delivers his verdict of the performances on the night...

Lawrence Vigououx – Always willing to receive the ball, but did not always pick the right pass. Made numerous solid saves throughout, reflecting his obvious ability at shot-stopping. 6/10

Adam El Abd – After a recent strong run of form from the Egyptian, this was not his best night. Often beaten by a pacey Rico Henry, El-Abd was the weaker piece in the Town defence. Picked up a late yellow for recklessness. 5/10

Raphael Rossi-Branco – Maintained his usual presence. Decision making perhaps wasn't always on point throughout the evening, but put in some solid challenges when called upon. 6/10

Jordan Turnbull – A good game for the defender, marshalled the line and did not really put a foot out of line. Always looked to attack at Robins corners, and was unlucky not to score before Obika put the ball in the Walsall goal for Swindon's first. 7/10

Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill - Didn't do much wrong, but then again didn't really do much at all. A quiet game for the full-back. 6/10

Bradley Barry – Read the midfield well and knew when to make his runs. Played a few dangerous efforts across the Saddlers’ goal and looked threatening. Kept his momentum in the second period and chipped in with the defending by making a couple of important clearances. 6/10

Louis Thompson – Industrious and always looked to get involved. Continued his work rate into the second half and was awarded match sponsor’s man of the match. His night and performance was capped off by his 90th minute winner, a sweet moment for the injury hampered young man – 8/10

Yaser Kasim – Threw himself around a bit, but never really settled into his usual game. In comparison to what Kasim is actually capable of, this wasn't his best showing. 6/10

Ben Gladwin – Looked to get involved, but it never really took off for him. Hit an audacious effort from the halfway line, which didn't in any capacity trouble the Saddlers 'keeper. Not quite Xabi Alonso just yet, replaced by Robert in the second. 6/10

Jon Obika – Nodded Town ahead by staying alert after Turnbull’s initial headed effort was thwarted. Drifted in and out of the game, could perhaps have done with more consistency. 6/10

Nicky Ajose – Plenty of running in the first half, gave energy to an often static Swindon front line. Looked to keep creating right till the end, and was influential in creating space for Thompson's last gasp winner. 7/10

Swindon Subs

Fabien Robert – Entered the fray to replace Gladwin. Jumped straight into the action, but with little cutting edge. Not a bad showing, will probably benefit from starting games from the off. 6/10

Anton Rodgers- Came on to replace Thompson following the goal, no time to make any impact. N/a
