Swindon Town bolster their ranks with the addition of versatile former Chelsea ace

Swindon Town have bolstered their ranks by bringing in versatile former-Chelsea player Tariq Uwakwe on a permanent deal. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reports on the signing.

Uwakwe came through the ranks at Chelsea, where he was teammates with Swindon midfielder George McEachran, but departed in 2022 without having made a senior appearance for the Blues.

The 23-year-old spent last season in League Two with Crewe Alexandra, where he was used in numerous different positions and scored one goal and set up five more for the Railwaymen.

Uwakwe is primarily a left sided player, but proved so versatile that he played in seven different positions during his single season with Crewe.

Michael Flynn said: “He is a very versatile player and has been schooled the right way coming through at Chelsea.

“He can play in numerous positions, but he wants to nail down wing-back, which I was happy with as he has a hell of a left foot and is very attack minded.

“He just fits the bill for me, we want to play exciting, front foot football and he showed a real desire to be a part of things here and that is the type of player we want.”
