Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft out to create new FA Cup history for the club

David Flitcroft has expressed his delight at ending Swindon's recent FA Cup hoodoo but is focused more on creating new history rather than concentrating on the past.

Swindon reached the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in six years on Sunday thanks to a comfortable 5-1 win at National League South outfit Dartford.

Dartford were certainly a potential banana skin for Town as, since 2011, they have lost to non-league opposition on three occasions in round one of the FA Cup (Macclesfield twice and Eastleigh last season).

The Kent-based club were swept aside by Swindon though as Timi Elsnik scored a brace in what were his first goals both for Swindon and in his professional career, while Harry Smith, Amine Linganzi and Paul Mullin all netted one each.

Boss Dave Flitcroft was aware of Swindon's poor recent history in the FA Cup and said that it did not concern him, as he is fully focused on creating his own history with the Robins.

"I'm nothing to do with the history of the football club, and I do want to create a new future for the football club.

"We are Swindon Town but we've got a substance about what we do, there's a strength to what we do, there's a real humility to what we do and we went out there today and respected that opposition more than most.

"I said [to the players on Thursday] that I could see a win on the cards because you're just committing to each other. I'm delighted with the performance and the way the lads turned out a real professional performance."

Flitcroft was later asked if he was relieved to at least draw a line over the recent cup failings.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, that's what I'm here to do," he continued.

"I said that from day one, the history is the history. It's a fantastic football club with a fantastic history, apart from the last few years.

"I've come down to Swindon and I want to change that. I want to change the mindset, change the culture, I want to change the way we do things.

"This group's getting it, they're believing in that, there's consistency in our performance and they're a credit to the football club this group of players.

"It's another away win that we're absolutely delighted with."

Town will find out their second-round opponents when the draw is made tonight at 7pm live on BBC Two and BT Sport 1. Total Sport will bring you details of that draw as and when it has been made.
