Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft praises defence after Luton win
David Flitcroft was especially pleased with his back five following Swindon Town's 3-0 win over Luton on Saturday.
Prior to Saturday's win, Swindon's defence had not been at the levels required for Town's promotion push, as in the last two games alone, they conceded seven goals at home to Crawley and Barnet.
They shut out the Hatters at the weekend though for what was only their second clean sheet of the season, with the first coming at Morecambe in a 1-0 win at the Globe Arena.
One of Swindon's defenders, left-back Chris Hussey, netted his first goal in Town colours at Kenilworth Road, and it was a stunning goal too - a curler with the outside of his foot.
Flitcroft remarked: "He just opened up and kept opening up, and opening up and sometimes it's difficult and you probably force him onto his right foot as a left-footed left-back but he had the ability to offset his feet and curl it in the top corner. A fantastic, fantastic solo goal.
"We've been looking at the data and Chris at times I've encouraged him to get forward too much in this opening five or six games which has left that side exposed at times, so it was about picking the right moments, choosing the right moments and he's got that real energy to get forward.
"The finish you'd expect from a top, top striker or top, top wide player.
"If that had happened in the Premership we'd be drooling about it so hopefully he'll get the credit he deserves but defensively I was happy with the performance today from all the team, particularly the back lads and Vigs (Lawrence Vigouroux, the goalkeeper).
"As a unit, they looked strong, they looked sound and they stayed in the shape a lot better.
"When you've got work and commitment from the boys in front of them, it makes defending easier."
Swindon have now won all three of their league away matches this campaign and th are on the road again on Tuesday night as they play Notts County at Meadow Lane.
