Swindon Town chairman Lee Power confirms Tim Sherwood has left the club
Tim Sherwood's time as Swindon Town's director of football has officially come to an end, chairman Lee Power confirmed today.
Sherwood was appointed Swindon Town's director of football on November 10 last year in an attempt to improve the club's form, given they were in the relegation zone at the time.
The former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager was in charge of tactics, transfers, team selection and team talks, despite head coach Luke Williams remaining in his post.
Despite a 3-0 win over Charlton in Sherwood's first game in charge, Swindon's form did not pick up and they were relegated from League One on the penultimate day of the season.
Sherwood, despite being on non-contract terms and therefore not earning from the job at the County Ground, will not be at the club going forward, as they plan for life in League Two.
When asked if Sherwood was still at the club, Power replied: "Nope. Tim's gone. That (the director of football role) has gone."
He continued: "I just think we needed a change. It's a different set of circumstances. Without going over old ground, when I came into the football club it was losing £5 million a year so we needed to find a way of plugging that hole so I went into recruitment to find the players, which we then sold, to fill that hole.
"The last two seasons that's been more and more difficult to do and I just felt with that the way things went last season it's getting harder and harder to take these loans and finding these young players.
"Especially in this league, we probably need to go with a little bit more experience and when you've got someone like David (Flitcroft) that's well-versed in League Two and League One and adds a promotion on the CV there's no reason why I need to have any involvement in that.
"David's got the reigns and we look forward to him trying to get us back to League One."
