Swindon Town confirm the signing of former Bournemouth defender

Swindon Town have signed former-AFC Bournemouth defender Brooklyn Genesini on a permanent deal after impressing on trial. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reports on the new addition.

Genesini featured in pre-season for Swindon, being used as a second half substitute against Eastleigh before playing 70 minutes in the win against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

The Yeovil-born defender departed boyhood club Bournemouth at the end of last season having scored on his only appearance for the first team in a shoot-out win in the Carabao Cup over Norwich City in 2022.

He said: “Trials are never easy, coming into a new squad, but this group of lads have brought me in like I was already one of the players, so it was a really nice experience even though it is a nervous time.

"The gaffer said he was happy with how I played [during the friendlies], trained, and that I had a good attitude in and out of football.

"I can play both sides [at wing-back], against Plymouth I was left wing-back, which I felt confident playing in, but I usually play right wing-back.

"Either side is fine by me because I enjoy playing on both sides.

"There are a couple good players in those positions, but I am here for the challenge, I don't want it to be easy, I just want to make that step and get in the team."

Genesini spent last season on loan in the Norwegian second division, featuring seven times across all competitions for Naestved BK.
