Swindon Town open contract negotiations with Twine

SWINDON TOWN assistant manager Tommy Wright explained that negotiations have begun with Scott Twine over a new contract but insisted everyone has their price with other clubs rumoured to be interested in the attacking midfielder. After returning from his loan spell at League Two Newport, Scott Twine marked his recall to Swindon with a goal of the season contender in last weekends televised 2-3 victory over Ipswich.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s League One encounter against Doncaster Rovers, Tommy Wright revealed that contract negations have begun with Twine as the Robins look to tie the 21-year-old down to a new long-term contract with just six months remaining on his current deal.

“I think we have started speaking to Scott about a new contract,” said Wright.

“Of course he has a future and I’ve always spoken highly of Scott Twine during my time here.

“I think the way we have managed him has been first-class and Scott has taken things on board and done very well at Newport.

“He scored a great goal on television and people will now be looking at him but he has to keep his feet on the ground,” he added.

“It was a fabulous goal and he scored one like it in training today but he has to pick his right moments to shoot.

“Obviously because he is doing well people will be interested in him but he just has to keep working hard.

“You always develop as a player and he has developed very well.

“Obviously we want to keep him but football is football and everyone has a price,” said Wright.

Having been loaned out four times since arriving at the club in 2016, Twine finally looks to have made his breakthrough under Swindon Town manager John Sheridan, and Wright says younger players should look too Twine as inspiration.

"He is an excellent trainer and has the desire to become a footballer,” said Wright.

“It is an example to the younger lads coming through such as Harry Parsons and you have to have that desire to keep getting better all the time,” he said.

Speaking ahead of a difficult weekend encounter, Wright also gave an update on the clubs transfer dealings, admitting that Swindon are speaking to a number of players but admitted there are set to be no incomings before the Doncaster fixture.

“There’s no progress but we are trying very very hard to get players in,” stated Wright.

“It’s not an easy time in the January transfer window for most clubs but we are trying and feel we have already brought some good players in this window.

“We would like to add another two or three and we are close with a couple but there is nothing concrete at the minute.

“There could be a couple of players heading out and everyone is looking to do deals. There’s nothing happening at the minute but I wouldn’t rule it out,” he said.
