Swindon Town "fit the bill" for Jon Obika's career plans

Striker Jon Obika says that his switch to Swindon in 2014 came at the right time for him, stating that the club "fit the bill" for the ex-Tottenham forward.

In an interview with the November issue of FourFourTwo magazine, Obika was discussing his experience of being regularly loaned out while at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Obika joined Spurs in 2008 and left six years later but during that period he was loaned out to Yeovil four times, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United, Brighton and Charlton Athletic twice as well as a brief earlier spell at Swindon.

The 26-year-old revealed he was "ready" to leave White Hart Lane for Swindon after years of biding his time.

"I wanted to settle down so I think I was ready. I was at a point in my life where I was ready to move on and Swindon fit the bill."

As well as that, Obika detailed what his many years of being farmed out around the Football League was like.

"My first spell was at Yeovil and I really enjoyed that. It wasn't about picking a style of club back then; it was about experiencing men's football and the mentality that comes with it.

"It was great fun. You were put in a pressurised situation and had to stand on your own two feet. It's a challenge to leave home and your club but you adapt, learn how to cook and do things that would otherwise be done for you.

"You pick up things from every club. I was at Charlton with Yann Kermogant and then at Brighton with Leo Ulloa, and I took a lot of things away from the way they held up the ball and linked the play. Those were things that I needed to improve in my own game."
