Swindon Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux returns home to London for personal reasons
Swindon Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has posted a statement on social media that illustrates he will go home to London to spend time with his family.
Vigouroux has been officially left out of the last two Swindon Town squads following the completion of what was a four-match ban for abusing an official.
Reice Charles-Cook played in goal instead of Vigouroux during those four matches and kept his place during Saturday's 3-0 win at Port Vale and last night's 1-0 victory over Wycombe in the EFL Trophy.
That did not raise too many eyebrows, as the summer signing from Coventry impressed during his four-game stint as stand-in, but Vigouroux not being in the squad at all caused concern for supporters who feared it may be an indication the Chilean stopper could be sold in January.
Post-Saturday and prior to Tuesday, Vigouroux was tagged in a few Twitter discussions that suggested that Charles-Cook was the better goalkeeper and, in addition to that, Vigouroux's attitude was questioned.
On Monday night, Vigouroux tweeted: "Incredible how short some people's memories are.." with the laughing and thinking emojis also included. That tweet has since been deleted.
During Swindon's EFL Trophy win though, the goalkeeper posted: "Time to move back home...LDN [London]" on his Instagram account from the passenger seat of a driving car.
Vigouroux's two-and-a-bit season stint at Swindon has been mixed for the 23-year-old with fantastic on-pitch performances coupled with questionable off-pitch incidents.
During his initial loan spell at Liverpool, he infamously paid a £50 fine for being late to training in 5000 1p coins and, as a result, he was sent back to Liverpool but came back to Wiltshire after apologising to the squad.
His impressive outings in goal led to Swindon signing him permanently the following summer on a three-year deal and he scooped up five player-of-the-year awards from various groups and sponsors, despite Town being relegated from League One.
Vigouroux started Town's League Two campaign impressively, but then found himself on the sidelines due to that aforementioned four-match ban for indiscipline.
Following last night's match, he posted a statement to a Swindon Town supporters group on Facebook that read:
"Swindon fans.
"I know I might not be your favourite player and I've made mistakes throughout my time here, I'd like to apologise to you all personally, I always want the team to do well and I'm so happy we're doing well right now regardless of whether I play or not.
"I shouldn't have to explain this but I will, I'm moving back home to spend time with my daughter, it's nothing to do with football, because I've been in Swindon so long I've missed her grow up and it's hard.
"London is only one hour away on the train and that's what I want to do going forward."
