Swindon Town have been "inundated" with applicants for the manager's job, according to Lee Power

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power says the club have been inundated with applications for the vacant managerial position at the County Ground.

Swindon have been without a manager since March 1, when David Flitcroft was officially announced as Mansfield Town boss, having been contacted by the Stags only the day before.

Power has placed left-back Matt Taylor in interim charge of the club while Flitcroft's replacement is found and the chairman says Town have had lots of people applying for the role.

Ex-Southend manager Phil Brown is the current favourite according to the bookmakers, with Uwe Rosler, Pat Fenlon and Taylor all ranked highly by the bookies.

Speaking to the BBC, Power said Taylor will definitely take charge for Saturday's match against Cheltenham and that Power will be having discussions with managers in the near future.

"During this week, I'll be speaking to other candidates. We've been inundated with people that would like to do it, it's just the decision whether it's a job until the end of the season or a long-term position - it's a strange situation when you've only got 11 matches left.

"As a chairman, the most important thing is just to get out of this league, which has always been our goal and then you have to take the long-term view thereafter."

Whoever Swindon go with, a decision will be made by the weekend.

"We'll see how Saturday pans out, we'll see how the week pans out, it gives me a bit of breathing space this week to meet people and then to obviously make a decision over the weekend for the remaining ten games, which it will be after Saturday and hopefully get the right person that'll finish the job off.

"There's been a lot of interest, there always is, people would like the job for different reasons and different lengths of terms and long-term and short term, my main focus is just getting out of this league at the moment and nothing's changed there."
