Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams describes Walsall defeat as "big, big blow"
Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams has admitted that the 1-0 loss at Walsall is a "big, big blow" to the club's hopes of avoiding relegation.
The Robins conceded in the 86th minute to a Walsall side that is not attempting to stave off relegation or mount a promotion charge.
Bank Holiday Monday's loss leaves Swindon in 22nd, two places and two points away from safety with two matches, Scunthorpe at home and Charlton away, remaining.
Swindon have now not scored in consecutive matches, following a 0-0 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon on Good Friday, and the Wiltshire-based side have not scored a first-half goal since March 11.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, Luke Williams said:
"It's a big, big blow but I think we're in the same situation points-wise which we were before kick-off.
"It's almost more disappointing because we could be sitting in a much healthier position but we've applied maximum pressure to ourselves and we probably need to win the remaining two games. That's the reality.
"It's a missed opportunity but they (Walsall) didn't play like they had nothing to play for, they were very professional, so were MK Dons.
"We've put ourselves, nobody else has done it, we've put ourselves in a position where we've got huge pressure on our shoulders and we're not able to play, and relax, and build moves more patiently.
"I think so (got the mentality to get the two wins).
"Back-to-back wins against Millwall and Fleetwood demonstrates the ability to get back-to-back victories and, even under pressure - they can do it.
"We've now given ourselves a mountain to climb and the clock is ticking against us."
