Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams is keeping the faith ahead of tough run of matches

Despite facing a number of higher-end League One clubs in the next few weeks, Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams is confident the Robins can pick up the points required to ease fears of relegation.

In the last month, from February 11 to March 11, Swindon have come up against a raft of teams that are, like them, battling against relegation to League Two but the Robins only managed to pick up seven points from a possible 21.

Now, they have to deal with sides at the other end of the league table, starting with Sheffield United (1st) at home on Tuesday night before Bradford (4th), Millwall (6th) and then Fleetwood (2nd).

Swindon are 22nd at the moment, four points under the dotted line that signifies safety, although Port Vale, in 21st, have three games in hand over Town and 20th-placed Oldham.

At culmination of the 3-2 loss at Port Vale, Williams spoke of the belief he still has that his side can survive the dreaded drop to the fourth tier for the first time in six years.

He did concede, however that the current situation "does look desperate."

Williams continued: "I don't have to answer in the way that I will and, of course, you can probably predict (what) my response will be (but) I believe that we can win enough games to stay in the division.

"I listened to an interview of a manager this week saying there's nothing he can do and that he cannot help the cause at the moment and there's nothing he can do to help the fight and that's not my belief at all.

"I'm prepared for this (run in) and we've beaten top sides in this division before and I can't see why we can't pick up points against real tough opposition."

Town have managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat a few times this season, with four of their nine league wins coming against sides that are considered 'bigger' clubs at this level or were in and around the promotion places at the time of playing Swindon.

Along with a 3-0 win over Charlton, Swindon have also managed to inflict defeat on Bradford and Bolton as well as Rochdale, who when fourth in the table, suffered a 3-0 defeat at the County Ground back in October.

Williams also accepts that "part of the blame" for Swindon's current predicament lies "with (him) and everybody at the club.

"There's not a single club where everybody's doing everything perfectly," he said before continuing "the only thing you can do as an individual is (to) think and focus on your job and give everything to your job (to) try and do what you think is best for the club.

"I think the only thing you can do as an individual is accept responsibility and then not hide away and go back to work and try again."
