Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft fears Forest Green defeat could be an "expensive night" in terms of injuries
Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft is concerned that Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at home to Forest Green in the EFL Trophy could leave him light on available players again.
Town were knocked out of the second cup competition in successive matches when Christian Doidge bundled in Forest Green's winner in the 80th minute, which also now means Swindon have lost four games on the bounce in all competitions.
All three of Swindon's substitutions on Tuesday night were enforced, as Luke Norris, Paul Mullin and Amine Linganzi all came off with various problems.
It initially looked like Norris' ankle was the only injury worry that occurred, however Flitcroft revealed at full-time that midfielder Linganzi and forward Mullin had to be removed from the pitch as old injuries they have just recovered from have returned.
All three have been assessed today, but the extent of the trio's diagnosis has not been revealed yet.
"I'm not sure how expensive the result is until we get the injuries tomorrow [Wednesday] and we find out Amine, Mulls and Noz," Flitcroft said soon after the final whistle on Tuesday.
"It's an ongoing problem with Paul Mullin. He felt probably the best he's felt on Saturday and got through some good work but he's felt a bit of a twinge in his groin area. Luke Norris from the ankle injury he's felt that, he's rocked that, so there's a weakness there, and Amine's tightened up again."
Flitcroft is no stranger to a long injury list. Already this season he has had to recall James Brophy and Tom Smith from loans at Leyton Orient and Bath City respectively due to mounting problems fitness wise that led to Swindon having just 20 fit players for an 18-man squad ahead of the Newport match, which Town lost 1-0.
Last season while he was manager of League One Bury, Flitcroft had times where he had up to eight players out at a time when the Shakers were in a run of losing matches that eventually led to Flitcroft's dimissal from Gigg Lane.
On the flipside to that, Flitcroft can also boast a result win over Peterborough the season prior where his Bury team won 3-1 with just one fit centre-back.
While the situation of Norris, Linganzi and Mullin is not yet public knowledge, Flitcroft does know that Timi Elsnik is out for a bit longer yet.
Elsnik was given an eight-week minimum diagnosis a fortnight ago so he will not play again in 2017.
Centre-back Dion Conroy will probably be out for the rest of the season with the cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered back in September and young striker Scott Twine is out for another two weeks.
Loanee left-back Chris Hussey is getting closer though.
"We've got a big day [Wednesday] in terms of the injuries we're carrying from tonight's game and potentially knowing where Chris is.
"We'll be touching base with the specialists tomorrow to see where Chris is.
"Don (McDermott) has come through a non-contact session today and we'll see how we reacts to that. We might possibly have one of them for the Accrington trip."
Unsurprisingly, Flitcroft thinks Swindon will be ok, even if all five are ruled out for the weekend.
"Tom Smith's eligible, James Brophy's eligible, so we'll be ok."
"We've got Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to go and that'll hopefully get the players back to where we want them."
Keshi Anderson was shown a red card for two bookable offenses against Forest Green but EFL Trophy suspensions only count in the EFL Trophy so we will not miss Saturday's trip to high-flying Accrington.
