McDermott, who signed on a free transfer from Rochdale this summer, scored his first goal in Town colours at the weekend with a fine strike in the 13th minute.
It was the only goal of the game, and it sent Swindon to the summit of the League Two table, with the Robins flying high on seven points from a possible nine.
Midfielder McDermott won a few accolades for his display at the Globe Arena, such as being included in the Football League Paper's League Two Team of the Weekend, as well as winning the League Two Goal of the Day gong.
It was not just his goal, or even his performance that impressed his manager, David Flitcroft, though, as the Town gaffer also noted the Irishman's commitment to the cause.
"He was outstanding," Flitcroft began.
"You've seen today, Donal - he's got his game minutes in now, he's blown the pre-season off and we've seen what quality he's got.
"But it's just the way he's robust. He keeps the ball for us to allow us to get up the pitch. He's one of the most committed players I've worked with.
"I have to slow him at times in training because he is so committed to training that he gets injuries and we got another scare the other night, but he came through that and wanted to play again."
McDermott signed a one-year deal at Town following a brief trial period after turning down the offer of a new contract at League One Rochdale.
