PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon Town v Port Vale

Good morning and welcome to another Press Conference Live blog as we speak to Swindon Town Head Coach, Ben Garner, to preview tomorrow's EFL League Two home fixture against Port Vale. Join Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker from 8.20am as he speaks to Garner and asks all the important questions ahead of tomorrow's County Ground clash.

9:02AM

That concludes today's press conference. For more reaction from today's press conference, listen to 'The Presser' on The Loathed Strangers Podcast that will be out later today.

9:01AM

Garner on Ellis Iandolo versatility:

"We have a position that we think he will develop into longer term that will benefit the club and also Ellis so that he has a long and successful career.

But you need players with that versatility in your squad and Ellis is one of those. He can play in serveral positions, he is a brilliant character, he's great in the dressing room and is a fantastic player in this squad who we feel will play an important part in our future."

9:00AM

Garner on Mitchell-Lawson best position:

"He can play anywhere across the attacking front line. He can play wide, he can play central, or he can even play a little bit deeper in the number 10 role.

He gives us good really good versatility. Jayden is a spark and he has a great attitude, work rate, and intensity but he is an attacking spark.

He makes things happen, wins fouls, is a good finisher and he is still getting up to speed. He will get a lot sharper and a lot fitter over the next four to five weeks."

8:57AM

Garner on Alex Gilbert:

"I don't think it's a surprise that we managed to bring him to the club. I think it is a credit to the way we started the season, the style we pay, and the hard work that has gone into selling our vision and the project we are building here.

We are delighted to have Alex here as we are with all of the players at the club and we are really happy with the group we have here."

8:51AM

Garner on Team Selection:

"We have to make decisions for tomorrow but I have a specific way I want to play looking at Port Vale.

There will be a couple of players that don't start but everyone is committed to the group and everyone will be important.

We are a group and understand that group ethic and the selection process every week."

8:50AM

Garner on Manager of the Month nomination:

"It was a reward for everyone's work since I came in at the club from the very top of the club and through all departments.

It was really nice to be nominated and hopefully we can have more nominations this season."

8:48AM

Garner on Port Vale:

"We will be looking to make it three home wins from three and have had a good week's training.

Port Vale could have picked up more points than they have and they have produced some really good performances.

They played really well against Forest Green and defensively Port Vale were very organised defensively and have good attacking weapons. We know it will be a tough game, but we will be pushing to win the game."

8:46AM

Garner on players returning from International duty:

"Kaine Kesler-Hayden really enjoyed the experience playing for England and he was back in with us Wednesday and is ready to play this weekend.

We have Jonny Williams' data from his training and matches he played and it was very pleasing for us with the amount of game time he got. He is great and is looking forward to the weekend as well.

Anthony Grant will have to do a period of isolation after coming from a red list country. I have asked for clarification on his isolation but we will have to follow the guidelines."

8:45AM

Garner on Lyden and Baudry:

"I wouldn't put a timeframe on it but they are back in training and took part in full sessions this week."

8:43AM

Garner on Mo Dabre:

"It was a fantastic debut for him and nobody has got a bigger heart than him. He always has a smile on his face, he works really hard every single day and he has a lot of potential.

He is a bit of a rough diamond but he is a player we will look to develop."

8:42AM

Garner on Arsenal midweek victory:

"It was a really pleasing performance against a top club who have lots of talented young players.

The cohesive nature of the performance was brilliant considering how many changes we made and a lot of players did really well.

We have younger players who have the ability to play at this level and beyond and all of these players make a huge contribution whether they play or not.

On Tuesday every player in the squad got what they needed and we want to progress in the competition."

8:39AM

Ben Garner has joined us now.

8:38AM

Swindon have maintained a strong home record against tomorrow's visitors with the Robins having not lost at the County Ground to Vale since October 2005 when Swindon succumbed to a 1-2 home loss in League One as Mickey Bell and Chris Cornes cancelled out Rory Fallon's opener.

Ben Garner will be hoping to extend the winning streak tomorrow afternoon and is well positioned to do so as players return from International duty.

8:32AM

Ben Garner is on his way and will be joining us shortly.

8:30AM

We are in the zoom call now and waiting for Ben Garner to join us shortly. The STFC manager was nominated for the League Two manager of the month award, but the EFL this morning gave the award to Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Bonner.

8:27AM

Having made a bright start to the season winning three times, drawing twice, and losing just once, to take the Robins to 4th in the table on 11 points.

Tomorrow's visitors haven't had as positive a start to the season with Darell Clarke's side winning just once as they sit just above the relegation zone on 6 points.
