Lancashire, who signed a two-year deal in the summer after leaving League One Shrewsbury Town, was made captain by boss David Flitcroft, who only also arrived at Swindon this summer.
The Town captain scored a 36th-minute own goal on Saturday which gave Crawley a 1-0 lead at the County Ground and, with Swindon chasing the game from that moment on, they then went on to concede another two.
Despite scoring an own goal, Lancashire faced up to the post-match media briefing and apologised to the Swindon support for the disappointing defeat.
"It's obviously difficult to talk straight after the game," Lancashire said.
"I thought the first half an hour was the best we played and we created numerous chances and their goal changed the course of the game and then when you're chasing the game it's obviously unacceptable to concede three goals at home, so we can only apologise for that.
"It's something we're going to have to change quickly. We want to get this first win at home and, like I said, the first half an hour you can see the amount of chances we created."
Lancashire then rued Swindon's lack of cutting edge during the 30 minutes when Town were on top.
"There was two chances thet we probably should have scored, but the Crawley keeper's pulled off a few great saves from Nozza (Luke Norris), but we can't let their goal change anything.
"At half-time I thought we were going to come back and win the game but the last half an hour was very disappointing."
