A deal originally tabled by former Swindon Town owner Lee Power over 2 years ago has finally become reality for fans of the club after Swindon Borough Council approved the sale of the County Ground to the club in a joint venture between owner Clem Morfuni and the Swindon Town supporters trust.
Brokered between the club and the supporters group, the deal will see both entities have a 50% stake in the stadiums ownership with fans set to be able to purchase shares in the County Ground.
The new deal represents a landmark occasion in the history of Swindon Town with the club now set to own the stadium they call home for the first time.
The final decision is set to be signed off by a scrutiny committee on 21st March, but plans for future re-development of the ground are already in its planning stages with the club wanting to invest £1 Million into modernising the Strand Bank stand, along with a further £20 Million on a new Town End stand, conference centre, hotel, and corporate boxes.
