Swindon Town's Luke Williams hopes that Dion Conroy's injury is "nothing too serious"

Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams does not know the full extent of the injury suffered by defender Dion Conroy, but has his fingers crossed that it is not a long-lasting problem for the defender.

Conroy had to be replaced in the 76th minute, by Brad Barry, on Saturday after seemingly doing something while making a fantastic last-ditch block to deny an MK Dons attack.

Given that Williams spoke to the media so soon after the final whistle, he was not able to give a definitive diagnosis on Conroy, but early signs suggest it is a nerve issue, according to the 35-year-old head coach.

"My own personal opinion is that it's a nerve issue," Williams said.

"One minute he's fine, next minute it's a grade three hamstring, then he's fine again.

"I think often we get these symptoms from nerve problems (they) can give you the side effects of something that's far more serious.

"The medical science will ultimately decide what it is, if he's scanned and there's a tear in there or if the physios are able to establish what it is. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious."

Conroy has excelled in the centre of Swindon's defence since making the move from Premier League leaders Chelsea in January, for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old defender also enjoyed a successful loan spell at National League outfit Aldershot earlier on this season, that was terminated to allow Conroy to complete a permanent move to the County Ground.

"I think so (it would be a blow to lose Conroy based on recent performances).

"I think he's a competitor, he's happy to make headers and tackles, he's quick across the ground to cover, he can play a pass, I think he's come in given a really good account of himself."

At this early stage, it is not yet clear on whether Conroy will be fit for the hosting of AFC Wimbledon on Easter Friday, or the trip to Walsall the following Monday.
