Swindon Town's Luke Williams "more than confident in the recruitment policy" at the club

Head coach of Swindon Town, Luke Williams, has said that he is perfectly ok with the transfer set up at the County Ground, despite its unorthodox method.

Swindon Town have signed four players in the first three weeks of the January transfer window - all of which loanees and under the age of 25 - which has caused annoyance among supporters who have been crying out for experienced additions as the club fight against relegation.

Williams is not the man in charge of transfer operations at the County Ground, that privilege goes to director of football Tim Sherwood, and today (Saturday) Williams told Total Sport that he was only told of the arrivals of Ben Gladwin, Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo, and Islam Feruz "when the deals were done and everything was signed."

Total Sport then asked the 35-year-old if he wished he was told earlier so he could scout the players before they arrive at the club, to which he replied:

"Nope. Not at all. I'm more than confident in the recruitment policy and I'm excited to work with the players when they arrive, I don't need to know more than that."

He would go onto add that all three of him, Sherwood and chairman Lee Power are "all on the same page" and that he does not need to inform Sherwood and Power of areas of the squad that need improving on.

"I think we're all on the same page," he said.

"I don't think there's anything I can tell them that they're not already aware of and, like I said, when there's anything relevant to me, I'm informed.

"(Experience) will be the obvious cry from the frustrated fans, for sure, and we will see what's available and what's possible and if the right player is available at the right terms then they will be here."

To add insult to injury, Nathan Delfouneso left the club prior to kick-off on Saturday to join League Two outfit Blackpool (and the ex-Villa man scored a 90th-minute leveller for the Seasiders) and Williams had the following to say about the departed Delfouneso:

"Nathan gave us everything he could and he didn't quite manage to score the goals that we were hoping he would and that he was hoping he would but he certainly gave us everything and he was a very valued member of the squad.

"At the moment it's the right decision for him to go elsewhere to try and play on a more regular basis. He's been away from the pitch for a number of weeks, we all know that, but he's ambitious, he still wants to play and he felt like he needed to go and get game time.

"I don't know for sure (if Delfouneso leaving frees up space for another signing) but I trust that work is going on to try and see if there are the right players that we can bring into the club and we will see in the coming weeks."
