Luke Williams will be "amazed" if new players are not brought in

Swindon Town's head coach Luke Williams has said that reinforcements are needed at the club to help their disappointing season.

The Robins only have one match of 2016 left - Milton Keynes Dons away on Friday, December 30, and then from midnight on January 1 they can bring in new players on loan or permanent deals.

All three of Chairman Lee Power, director of football Tim Sherwood and head coach Luke Williams have stressed a desire for major incomings in the winter window with the 2-0 loss at Millwall on Boxing Day being the latest in a string of poor performances, especially on the road.

Town have managed just one away win, a 2-0 victory over Oldham, since February with a lack of mental strength being a reason repeatedly given by Williams for the lack of positive results on Swindon's travels.

Today (Monday), Williams said: "(We keep seeing similar away performances) because we've got a small squad and seeing the same players week in, week out and they get affected by things.

"A lot of teams we play against are set up in a similar way with a similar style of play and we struggle to combat that."

Williams would then go on to stress a desire to bring in fresh faces next month.

"We have got a chance now to bring in players to the football club that can help us try and adapt and help us to change so that we can combat what we're coming up against frequently in League One.

"I think it would be shocking if we didn't bring anybody in to try and change the fortunes of the team, that's what that window is there for, and I'd be amazed if people don't come in to the club.

"I don't think there's a priority (of target), we're all after the same things in the division, we're all looking at outstanding players - whether they be wingers, whether they be defenders, whether they're strikers or whether they be midfield players that can play defensive, we're all after the same quality players."

Swindon's first match after the opening of the mid-season transfer window is a home clash with Southend United on January 2. The reverse fixture, at Roots Hall, ended in a 1-1 draw.
